Cromagnon
man-
time-
45 thousand years ago
Brain
size- 1450 cm3
Location-
Zambia
Characteristics-
They
were the first modern humans to enter Europe. They were taller than
modern humans with a larger cranial capacity ( 170 cms and 1450 cc).
However they do not show considerable differences to be considered a
separate species and are also called “early european man”. They do now have the prominent supra-orbiatal ridges or occipital bun present in Neanderthal. Their faces are smaller, cranium is more spherical and their bodies are lean and tall; adaptations for running in hot climates. These lead us to believe that they looked much like modern humans and much unlike Neanderthals. They are considered to have replaced/absorbed the local Neanderthal population.
Their
name Cro-magnon man comes from the Cro-magnon valley in france where
their remains were discovered. Very highly evolved works of art have
been discovered from caves in europe which reflect their artistic
ability, which was absent in Neanderthals, cohibiting europe with
thim. Many of the fossils found in Grimaldi and Chancelede have also been attributed to them.
