Paranthropus-
meaning- Alongside ape ( existed with early homos)
time- 2.5 to 1.2 million years ago
robust species
Paranthropus robustus 2.0 - 1.2
Paranthropus boisei 2.4 - 1.2
Location- East and South Africa
Famous specimen - Eurydice
physical characters-
They were initially considered to be a part of the australopithecus genus but were separated later. They were first of the robustly built hominids. They keep most of the adaptation of Australopithecus but show some marked deviations. Their jaws were much bigger with larger molas and small incisors. They also had large saggital crests pointing to massive muscles in the jaws.
They were 99 to 114 cm tall and weighed 40 to 55 kgs in weight. They however do show much larger demorphism than humans.
While humans split from the austalopithecus, panthropus evolved separately from them. Thus there is believed to be no panthropus ancestry in human beings. They are built more like a gorilla (not related to) though much ligther than them ( gorillas weigh as much as 180 kgs).
